The rain was falling upon her grimy face, diluting the spume that drained from her nose. The little girl rubbed her eyes continually with the knuckles of her fist and then looked upon the strange man as though he were a hauntingly beautiful illusion.
His pale blue eyes looked upon the weeping child with a simple stare, devoid of mutual empathy. Her tears were like the flood waters of a great rain, and they quenched the chasm of his throbbing heart.
Her hair was long and tangled into two ragged pig tails, the black sheen glossed with water running through it, her face was washed in her tears and mucus, tendril beads of soot formed in globules before being evicted by her small, groping and callous fingers. She was the most beautiful visage he had ever seen.
